About Me

My journey so far. The coverage of some stories as a teenager when I lived in a nature reserve off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa, how I chose the name 'Gwiilo', and a bit more.

'Gwiilo'

When I was around 13 years old, I was apart of a group of friends when I lived in a nature reserve off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa. We would frequently roam around the estate and go down to the various beaches. On one particular day, we were all walking barefoot along the gravel paths surrounded by kilometres of bushes, when the group leader jokingly started giving everyone nicknames, just for fun. When he decided that I 'looked like a 'Gwilo'' I immediately loved the name. Unfortunately, the name was taken when I decided to change my Minecraft name, and instead I decided to change it to 'Gwiilo'. The name has stuck with me ever since, and it is a constant reminder of the journeys we had in the nature reserve, ranging from being apart of the creation of our amazing bush base and it's infamous, powerful catapult which could shoot all the way down into the sea water, to the hot, sunny days when we would sit in the road, hiding in the shade of an unnecessarily large bush.

Minecraft

When I was 11 years old, I had just moved into the nature reserve, and had already made friends with the local kids, and learned about the maniac, Lisa, who lived at the top of the road, and her murderous dog. I didn't do much when I wasn't in school besides play random web games and play around with JavaScript code on my permanently 15fps laptop. One day, my older brother invited me to play a new web game with him, which was 3D. This was a huge thing at the time for me, because I only really played 2D games. I immediately fell in love with the game, and purchased the game's premium mode at the time, which was that you had access to the skin, and in the future, the downloadable release. Me and my younger brother frequently played on popular servers on the website, where I was named Jackbean0123. I frequently avoided rainy days by playing the game, and would always wake up at 5am or so to play it. After a few years, I posted my first ever project to the site 'Planet Minecraft'. It wasn't anything fancy; just a seed I found, but sharing it with the internet just felt awesome. I plan to continue sharing content with the world for as long as I can.
